The S.A.D. STRESS INDEX FOR JANUARY
Because of its likelihood of cloud cover, its short days, long nights, and bitter cold weather, January has the worst average on the S.A.D. Stress Index. Conditions continue to be conducive to severe seasonal affective disorders until the middle of February.

Key for Interpreting the S.A.D. Index: Clouds = Cloud Cover; Weather = Weather Conditions; Dayl = Hours of Daylight. Totals of 75 - 65: Severe stress for those who suffer from seasonal affective disorders; 64 - 50: Moderate stress; 49 - 35: Light stress; 34 - 25: Occasional stress for those most susceptible to S.A.D.;

THE S.A.D. STRESS INDEX FOR FEBRUARY
The likelihood of seasonal stress begins to fall steadily throughout February. Even though clouds usually continue to deprive the human brain of the benefits of sunlight, the length of the day complements the slowly improving temperatures, and the S.A.D. Index dips more frequently into the moderate (but still troubling) 50s and 60s when the moon lies in its weaker phases.

Key for Interpreting the S.A.D. Index: Clouds = Cloud Cover; Weather = Weather Conditions; Dayl = Hours of Daylight. Totals of 75 - 65: Severe stress for those who suffer from seasonal affective disorders; 64 - 50: Moderate stress; 49 - 35: Light stress; 34 - 25: Occasional stress for those most susceptible to S.A.D.;

THE S.A.D. STRESS INDEX FOR MARCH
Seasonal stress continues to afflict a sizeable percentage of the population throughout March. Even though the day has added several hours to its length since solstice, cloud cover is still significant in the year’s third month, and the weather, although gradually warming, is seldom benign.

Key for Interpreting the S.A.D. Index: Clouds = Cloud Cover; Weather = Weather Conditions; Dayl = Hours of Daylight. Totals of 75 - 65: Severe stress for those who suffer from seasonal affective disorders; 64 - 50: Moderate stress; 49 - 35: Light stress; 34 - 25: Occasional stress for those most susceptible to S.A.D.; 24 and below: Only people with extreme sensitivity to S.A.D. experience S.A.D. below an Index reading of 24.
