Two white koi fingerlings have appeared in the pond for the first time since March 7th. Scilla early bloom, daffodils gathering momentum. Red maples shedding. Many finches bright gold, some males spiraling in competition for seed. Cowbirds and house finches feeding. Bleeding hearts two inches. Henbit blooming. Canadian thistle leaves two to three inches, pacing the mallow. Pussy willows fat but no pollen noticed. Pushkinias and small red tulips full bloom. Lilac leaf buds opening. Viburnum buds cracking. Stella d’oro foliage pacing the other day lily leaves. Lungwort with fresh leaves and first buds. Low honeysuckle branches leafing. Cardinals loud throughout the morning.

Driving to the Ohio River about four in the afternoon: Just a hint of green to the undergrowth, the roadside grass still dull. In Cincinnati, a sudden change in the honeysuckle and silver olive undergrowth. Roadside daffodils and forsythia bushes were in full bloom.
